I just realized I hadn't posted any of my work from art school, so gradually I will be adding them. This piece is titled "Childhood Reading."
This piece is actually in a (planned) set of 3 that deals with my relationships with books throughout various moments in my life. This piece represents my earliest memories - picture books with singsong rhymes.
Materials: Copper sheet, copper foil, embroidery thread.
A few days ago, I came to the conclusion that I need to do art about things that inspire me and spark my creativity. I've avoided what I truly like in most of my art because I'm always embarassed or ashamed of what I like. But no more. So from here on out, my art will deal with the following things:
1. Gift cards - I collect gift cards, and they are a big driving force in me as a person
2. Food - I love cooking. And im going to somehow make stuff tha works with food
3. Books - I love reading. My last metals project (reading girl) made me realized that the quality of my art really increased when its about something I really like.
4. Japanese bead weaving - crafty and commercial on its own, but ill make it arty!
5. Pressed pennies - i hate how they sit in the folder right now.
6. old photographs of my mom - i dont want to just stick them in an album
i just realized that I need to work with materials i like. since i never have time to do it on its own, if i mix it with art then i am able to please my crafty side as well as the school side.
So my goal this summer is to sketch a ton of possibilities of what I'll make in the fall
And on a sidenote, I got this book a while ago at Goodwill for only 2.29, and it is amazing
